With strong corporate support and a newly formed Green Team, Hampton Lumber Mills’ Willamina plant joined Energy Trust’s Industrial Energy Improvement initiative.
As a result of their participation in the nine-month initiative, the Hampton team developed a strategic approach to energy management that leveraged low- and no-cost changes. Broad-based employee engagement was at the core of the effort, which resulted in energy savings of more than two million kilowatt hours, 11.5 percent of the mill’s usage.
“The project made us aware of a waste stream we didn’t know we had. It’s made us a lot more efficient, and no one has missed the energy we’re not using anymore,” said Bret Griffin, Willamina plant manager.
